Postpartum is a lot harder than most people expect.
We’re told that parenthood should come naturally. That we’ll adjust. That we’ll figure it out. But for many parents, the postpartum period is full of anxiety, overwhelm, emotional whiplash, and a version of yourself that you barely recognize.

Postpartum therapy focuses on the emotional, mental, and relational changes that can show up after having a baby. And while postpartum mental health is often talked about as one specific diagnosis, the reality is often much messier than that.
Some parents experience postpartum anxiety or depression. Others are stuck in constant “what if” thinking, intrusive thoughts, or fear they don’t recognize themselves. Many feel disconnected from their partner, unsure of who they are now, or completely flattened by the mental load. And plenty of people look like they’re coping just fine, while quietly falling apart on the inside.
At The Perinatal Collective, postpartum counselling makes room for all of it. We work with parents across most provinces in Canada who need support that understands how destabilizing this transition can be, without minimizing it or trying to rush them through it.
A lot of parents carry these experiences quietly, assuming this is just part of the deal or that they should be handling it better. It doesn’t have to stay this way.
Postpartum counselling offers space to slow things down, name what’s happening, and get support that actually fits the realities of this season, not the version of parenthood we’re sold.

Postpartum therapy at The Perinatal Collective is shaped around real life with a new baby. Sleep deprivation, hormonal shifts, constant responsibility, and lack of support leave very little room to process what you’re feeling. Therapy starts by meeting you exactly where you are, without pressure to have everything figured out or explained neatly. Together, we focus on understanding what’s weighing on you and what kind of support would feel most helpful right now.
Our therapists use trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches that are practical and grounded. Sessions are held online and designed to work around the realities of early parenthood, whether that means supporting you through anxiety and intrusive thoughts, helping you process difficult experiences, or rebuilding a sense of steadiness and self-trust. The goal isn’t to "fix you". It’s to support you through this process and major change in your life.

Postpartum therapy works best when you don’t have to explain or justify what you’re going through.
Every therapist on our team has additional, in-depth training in perinatal mental health. This means you’re not educating your therapist about postpartum anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or the emotional fallout of early parenthood. We already understand the terrain.
Our approach is warm, relational, and honest.
We name the hard things without judgment, avoid toxic positivity, and support parents as whole people, not just caregivers. With therapists in most Canadian provinces offering online counselling, you can access specialized postpartum support without sacrificing connection or quality of care. View our booking page for details on which therapists are available in your province.

She is honestly the best clinical counsellor with the most compassionate heart. I am in awe at the way she is so caring, compassionate, and thoughtful. Her advice is practical, realistic, and easy to implement. I’m so grateful to have found her.
She is so supportive, thoughtful, insightful and is able to connect with me. I so appreciate her and how she asks the right questions to help me release emotions that I didn't know I was pushing down, and questions to help me think a different way. So very fortunate to be working with her.
There isn’t one single type of therapy that works "best" for everyone postpartum. What matters most is working with a therapist who has specific training in perinatal mental health and understands this stage of life. Your therapist will tailor their approach based on what you’re dealing with and what feels supportive for you.
There isn’t a clear cutoff. While the first year after birth is often emphasized, many parents continue to feel the emotional impact of becoming a parent well beyond that. If you’re struggling months or even years later, postpartum counselling can still be relevant and helpful.
Yes. Postpartum depression and anxiety don’t always show up right away. Symptoms can emerge months, and even years later, as sleep deprivation builds, support drops off, or expectations change. Support is valid and effective at this point.
Online counselling works much like in-person therapy, except sessions are held via secure video. You’ll book online, meet with your therapist from your own space, and don’t need to download any special software. A stable internet connection and an up-to-date browser are all you need.
Sessions are 50 minutes long and range from $145–$220 CAD plus applicable taxes, depending on the therapist. Therapists also spend time outside of sessions planning your care and documenting progress.
We don’t offer direct billing, but most extended health benefit plans cover counselling services. Coverage varies by province and provider, so we recommend checking with your insurance company.
In most cases, you’ll need to work with a therapist licensed in your province, though there are some exceptions. Our booking filters make this clear and easy to navigate.
There’s no set timeline. Some parents come for short-term support, while others prefer longer-term counselling. Your therapist will collaborate with you to find a pace that feels manageable and realistic.
