“The worst part wasn’t even the loss itself—it was how alone I felt. I left the clinic feeling like my grief didn’t matter, like my baby didn’t matter. I just wanted someone to look me in the eyes and acknowledge that something real had happened, and that I wasn't just another medical case.”

  • The spectrum of perinatal grief—including miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, TFMR, NICU experiences, fertility struggles, neonatal death, SIDS, and more

  • Mental health models of grief support and healing, including how to distinguish between grief, PTSD, and depression

  • How to recognize complex grief and understand when someone may need deeper or ongoing care

  • What not to say: the most common mistakes providers make—and what to do instead

  • How to use validating, inclusive, trauma-informed language that honours the diversity of grief experiences

  • The intersection of grief with identity, trauma histories, systemic oppression, and reproductive rights

  • Real-world tools to hold space for grief across cultural and personal differences

  • How to support to make sense of loss where possible, improve emotional regulation, and identity repair in grief journeys

This course will transform the way you support grieving parents

Perinatal grief is layered, personal, and often invisible. It deserves care that is not only compassionate, but trauma-informed and nuanced.

Every provider working with families needs the tools to hold space with skill, sensitivity, and confidence.

We Focus on Inclusive, Compassionate Care for Perinatal Grief & Loss

Too often, the way grief is understood and supported in perinatal care reflects a narrow lens—one that centers white, cisgender, heterosexual, partnered experiences. But grief is not one-size-fits-all, and neither is care.

This training explores how systemic inequities shape the grief experience—and how providers can do better.

This training explores how systemic inequities shape the grief experience—and how providers can do better.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Recognize how racism, colonization, and reproductive injustice increase rates of loss and decrease access to compassionate care—especially for Black and Indigenous families

  • Understand the unique grief experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ parents, including layers of invisibility and systemic barriers to support

  • Name the impact of poverty, healthcare discrimination, and provider bias on grieving families navigating loss with fewer resources

  • Move beyond assumptions and provide care that validates each individual’s identity, culture, and lived experience
